Memorial School educates Emerson’s pre-kindergarten through second grade students in an environment that welcomes students to their first school experience. A profound spirit of cooperation among the administration, teachers and parents creates a caring and nurturing environment for all children who attend Memorial School. Developing a love of learning in each of our students remains an ongoing focus of all stakeholders. Our school embraces the motto of “Hand and Hand, We Can”, proving that by working together we can accomplish anything. Instruction at Memorial School is carefully guided by New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards and frequently revised district curriculum.  Technology integration is flourishing in our school community. All classrooms are equipped with SMART boards, four student computer stations, and one teacher computer station. Furthermore, we have two mobile computer labs that house mini laptops for student use. Students interact with technology throughout the school day, and it is integrated seamlessly within other content areas. Our students continue to develop their character education skills through the use of the Open Circle curriculum. The purpose of Open Circle is to teach students social and emotional learning skills that will enable them to get along better with their peers and build a more close-knit classroom community. Lessons in the Open Circle Curriculum cover active listening, bullying, skills for calming down, and much more.

Memorial is fortunate to have the continued support of the PTA throughout the year. It focuses its efforts on providing additional services and supplies for our students such as bringing cultural arts events to the school, book fairs, science equipment, plays, and more. Finally, the participation by our teachers in extensive professional development activities during the year allows them to gain valuable insight into creative teaching techniques as well as current trends in education that will directly benefit the students.
